We are now one week on from the exciting run at Lake Nona and we are still on a high. After a very busy week (and still going), it's great to have the chance to reflect...
From the parking to the post-run free food, beer and entertainment; the event was extremely well organised and this further helped to create a fantastic atmosphere. One would think that a 5:45pm start time would mean "cooler" conditions. We and many others were wrong. With temperatures reaching mid 80F during the run, everyone had to give it everything they had to push through to the finish line. This included men, women and children of all different ages and athletic ability.
Lake Nona is a beautiful setting: an up-and-coming area of Central Florida with stunning homes surrounding the lake and a town centre being developed with classy bars and restaurants. We're excited to return soon, fully expecting more interesting things to have emerged in this area.
What a surreal moment when Alyssa Raghu from American Idol sang the national anthem before the run began. Earlier this year, we visited Windsor Castle around one week prior to the Royal Wedding and it was a time that reminded us of how proud we are to be British. This was a time that reminded us where we were, how our lives have changed and how honoured we were to be stood alongside such proud patriots for an event such as this. This is a moment that will resonate with us for a long time to come.
A huge amount of gratitude goes out to all those who gave generously to such a worthy cause. It certainly helped to give us the extra push we needed throughout the run. We're pleased to announce that we all helped to raise a total of $600 for Orlando UF Health Cancer Center.
