Burgers and Brews – Red Robin review

One common question that we find we get asked when visiting guests that are staying at our managed homes is ‘what restaurants would you recommend?’. What a question and by far our favorite question as we are not afraid to say we like our food. Orlando, Kissimmee and Davenport hold some of the best restaurants we have ever been to, so to answer this question briefly is a tall order. So why not write about our experiences in the hope that guests can themselves also experience it.

Our first pick is Red Robin – Gourmet Burgers and Brews at Champions Gate in Davenport. It’s not our favorite restaurant, but we hadn’t tried it so we were intrigued by it. One thing that did attract us was that they had vegetarian and vegan options and of course the BREWS!

We arrived around 8:00pm on a Tuesday and it was very quiet, but we didn’t mind as sometimes it’s nice to escape the hustle and bustle! We were seated quickly and they left us so that we could look over the menu. We liked this as there’s nothing worse for us than being asked what you want to drink and you’ve barely sat down. The beer selection wasn’t as vast as we thought it would be, but it was still a good enough selection. We ordered our drinks and then looked over the food menu, which offered every burger you could imagine and alternatives if you didn’t fancy a burger. We ordered the Jump Starter Double as an appetizer (battered mushrooms and cheese sticks). For our entree, we ordered an Atlantic Cod Burger and Veggie Burger both with bottomless fries.

Now, we’ve had cheese sticks, mozzarella sticks, cheese planks etc. at many places and these were by far the best we’ve tasted. The mushrooms let the side down though…they were tasty enough but they were just deep fried breaded mushrooms and lacked flavor. The appetizer also came with a marinara dip and a sweet chili dip, which were amazing. Overall though, we enjoyed the appetizer and would probably have double cheese sticks next time.

Entree time…well we thought so anyway…The entrees arrived, but unfortunately they brought over an Atlantic Cod and Fries rather than the Atlantic Cod Burger and Fries that we had ordered. We absolutely hate sending food back, but as we came for the burgers, we felt it right to tell the server. They were so good about it though and took away both meals so that they could keep the other warm whilst they changed the incorrect meal. They even bought us an extra beer on the house, which we really appreciated and did not expect at all. Once both correct meals arrived, we were happy; apart from the fact that the food was lukewarm, which is probably due to the error initially.  The veggie burger was nice enough, as the ingredients complimented each other but it didn’t pack the punch we were expecting. The Atlantic Cod burger was enjoyable and the fish was nice, however the dressing on the burger made the batter soggy which was disappointing.

Overall, we would recommend Red Robin if you’re looking for the following:

  • Posh junk food.
  • Relaxed environment.
  • Convenient and fast service.
  • Comfort food.
  • Varied diets catered for.

Our rating for Red Robin is 3/5
